Weihnachtszeit. Ich selber haben meine Weihnachtsferien im Oman verbracht – ich habe mich gefühlt wie Lawrencia of Arabia. Der Oman ist sehr schön, sehr fremd, sehr sympathisch. Ich kann ihn Ihnen wirklich empfehlen, obwohl es mehr als eine Badedestination ist. Es wäre auch schade, Ferien in einem so schönen und spannenden Land ausschliesslich in einem Liegestuhl zu verbringen. Wir haben eine Jeep-Fahrt durch die Dünen gemacht, sind auf Kamelen in den Sonnenuntergang geritten und haben uns darüber gefreut, wie fortschrittlich und offen dieses arabische Land dank eines sehr weltoffenen Sultans ist. Sowohl das Chedi Muscat als auch das Al Husn sind Hotels, die einen Besuch wert sind. Und diesmal hat mir auch mein Blinddarm keinen Strich durch die Ferien-Rechnung gemacht.  
 


I spent my christmas holidays in Oman, and I felt like Lawrencia of Arabia. The Oman is very beautiful, and thanks to a Sultan who has known how to adjust to the 21st century, it is very open and friendly. The Oman is a wonderful destination, the hotels Chedi Muscat and the Shangri-La are well worth seeing. The Oman has a lot more to offer that ist beaches – in fact, it would be pity to see a country with such a long and colourful history and such breathtaking landmarks from a beach chair only. We drove an AWD into the desert, spent the night there in a tent hotel, and rode into the sunset on camelback. I can highly recommend this place.

 

 

 

Western Summit. Ende Januar fliege ich nach Sacramento, Kalifornien, um dort die Einkäufer-Messe Western Summit zu besuchen. Bisher sind wir jeweils ans „Pow Wow“ gereist, aber da viele unsere Kunden den Westen Amerikas bereisen, möchte ich mich diesmal speziell dieser Gegend widmen. Ich habe mit sage und schreibe 57 Anbietern verschiedener Dienstleistungen Termine. Von dieser Hektik werde ich mich anschliessend ein paar Tage lang in der Gegend von Sonoma erholen.


I’ll fly to Sacramento at the end of January to attend four days of Western Summit. That’s the get-together for all the tourism folks of the western part oft he United States. I’ll be checking out new train rides, hotels, bike rental options – 57 appointments in all. After that, I am taking a couple days off to visit the Sonoma area and check out a new Spa hotel and some wineries. 

 

 

 

 

 

Albisgüetli 2010. Kaum bin zuhause, beginnt das längste Country-Festival der Welt im Schützenhaus Albisgütli. Wie jedes Jahr werden wir dort auch dieses Jahr wieder vom 29. Januar bis zum 21. März einen Stand haben. Da kann ich für einmal beim Arbeiten Musik in mehr als Bürolautstärke hören! Am meisten freue ich mich persönlich auf die Konzerte von Buckwheat Zydeco (10. und 11. März) und Delbert McClinton, bei dessen tollen „Blues Cruises“ wir auch schon dabei waren (12. und 13. März).  Und natürlich freue ich mich darauf, Sie im Albisgüetli zu begrüssen!

 

      

It’s always that time of the year when you chance from winter coat to denim jacket. It’s about 40 nights of music, baked potatoes and beans, lots of cowboy hats and dancing. As always, we have a booth at the Albisgütli to meet up with old and new friends. I enjoy working with the music turned up just a little bit louder that at my office. I especially look forward to seeing Buckwheat Zydeco (March 10 and 11) and Delbert McClinton (March 12 and 13), whose „Blues Cruise“ is a classic we plan to attend again next year. Cruising the carribbean and listen to music – it can’t get a whole lot better than this.

 

 

 

 

 

Country Music Club Newsletter. Seit anfangs dieses Jahres habe ich einen neuen Nebenjob, der eigentlich ein alter ist: Ich bin wieder für den Newsletter des Country Music Club zuständig. Überhaupt ist die Country-Music wieder ein noch wichtigerer Teil meines Lebens geworden: Zusammen mit meiner alten Freundin Susie Loacker habe ich anfangs Jahr die Redaktion des Newsletter übernommen, das ist das monatliche Magazin des Country Music Clubs of Switzerland und das einzige ernst zu nehmende Country-Magazin der Deutschschweiz. Ich habe den Newsletter früher schon einmal gemacht, und es macht Spass, diese Aufgabe unter neuen technischen Bedingungen wieder in Angriff zu nehmen.

 

 

Besides the Albisgütli festival, Country Music has become an even bigger part of my business life: I am (once again) in charge of the Newsletter of the Country Music Club of Switzerland’s Monthly. I’ve done it before, and I’m doing it again: My old friend Susie Loacker and I are the new editors of the monthly Newsletter, the mag of the Country Music Club of Switzerland. Since I travel to Nashville and New Orleans a lot and therefore know almost everybody in the business, this new side job is kind of a logical consequence. It’s a lot of fun, too.
