Zurück aus Nashville. Zum 20. Mal war Maya, unterstützt von George Hug, diesen Sommer mit fast 60 Leuten in Nashville an der Fan Fair. Und doch kam für einmal alles anders, sie lernte Music City von einer völlig anderen Seite kennen.
Da meint man doch, man kenne eine Stadt. Vor allem, wenn man wie Maya Hagenbucher schon etwa 20 Mal an der Fan Fair war. Seit ihr Sohn Patrick zwei Jahre alt war, hat sie jedes Jahr eine Gruppe nach Music City USA begleitet, darunter viele Stammgäste, aber auch Country-Neulinge und einmal ein Team des Schweizer Fernsehen. Der Sohnemann studiert inzwischen. Diesmal war unter den fast 60 Leuten, die sich in zwei Gruppen aufteilten, auch Rolf Fritsche, der im Rahmen der International Show einen Auftritt hatte. Die eine der beiden Gruppen wurde von Maya betreut, die andere vom Schweizer Country-Mann der ersten Stunde, George Hug.
„Ich bin“, lacht Maya Hagenbucher, „halt ein Freak: Mit gefällt eigentlich alle Musik. Die leisen Töne im Ryman Auditorium mit Marty Stuart oderdie Fanclub-Party von Billy Yates. Da waren tolle Songwriter wie Paul Overstreet. Ich mag aber auch die rockigeren Sounds im LP Field, dem Football-Stadion. Da geht es oft ziemlich zur Sache, aber auch die Tageskonzerte sind toll, weil man dort alte Lieblinge wieder hören kann. Ich habe das Konzert der Oak Ridge Boys gesehen, und das von Gene Watson – ihn mag ich sehr, ich konnte jeden Song auswendig.“
Doch die Fan Fair war noch nicht ganz zu Ende, da bekam Maya krampfhaftes Bauchweh. Zuerst dachte sie, sie habe etwas Schlechtes gegessen. Doch als die Schmerzen immer schlimmer wurde, bat sie im Hotel um einen Arzt. Als dann jedoch gleich die Ambulanz gefahren kam, schickte Maya den Wagen wieder weg. Aber nur, um am nächsten Tag selber per Taxi zum Vanderbilt-Spital zu fahren. Die hilfreichen Ärzte erwischten Mayas Blinddarm gerade noch vor dem Durchbrechen. Als Maya danach wieder in ihrem Hotelzimmer lag und darauf wartete, heim fliegen zu können, wurde ihr klar, wie viele Freunde sie inzwischen in Nashville hat: Mr Fisher von der Grand Ole Opry liess gute Besserung wünschen, Jerry Walker von Aristo Medien rief ebenso an wie Judy Seale, Jay Barron oder Keith Wright von der Hall of Fame. Sogar die Bellamy Brothers riefen an. Maya war froh um diese moralische Unterstützung und ist jetzt schon sicher, dass sie nächstes Jahr wieder an die Fan Fair fliegt, und zwar vom 8. bis 15. Juni 2010. Ohne Blinddarm diesmal.
Back from Nashville. Don’t ever think you know a city well, even if you’ve been there 20 times. Fan Fair was different for Maya this year, and exciting in a totally different way.
Sometimes, you really think you know a place well. Maya Hagenbucher has been to Fan Fair 20 times and knows Music City. In mid June, she took a group of some 60 Swiss people to see all the music and paraphernalia. Maya herself likes all kinds of country: “I am a bit of a freak”, she confesses, “I live everything from Marty Stuart’s quiet sounds at the Ryman to the loud gigs at LP field.” This year, she enjoyed an Oak Ridge Boys gig and a Gene Watson show. “I know all this songs by heart”, she grins.
Fan Fair wasn’t over yet when Maya started feeling a throbbing pain in her belly. Soon she became sick, so she thought she had eaten something bad. After calling for a doctor, an ambulance was sent by the hotel, which she promply turned away. But the next day, she realized that she really had to do something. So she checked herself into Nashville Vanderbild, where able doctors got her appendix out just before it was completely ruptured. Thanks, you guys at Vanderbilt! When Maya was back at her hotel room waiting to be declared fit for flying, she found out how many friends she has in Music City: Mr Fisher of the Grand Ole Opry left a getwell-note, Jerry Walker of Aristo Media called, and so did Judy Seale, Jay Barron and Keith Wright from the Hall of Fame. Even the Bellamy Brothers called to wish Maya well. She really appreciated the support and wants to really thanks everybody now that she’s safely back home. She’ll be back next year, June 8 thru 15, 2010 – except for this time, she won’t be bringing her appendix with her.

Every year in early july, downtown Zurich has a latino feel to it. On Helvetiaplatz and at the concert venue Volkshaus, the stage is set for a festival by the name of “Caliente!”. What could be more fitting that moving the festival to Miami where Spanish is the native tongue of more than half the citizens? Also, it’s actually pretty hot in Miami. We’ll be there November 19 thru 23, and if you choose to travel the Sunshine State on your own before or after the event, we’ll be glad to assist you.
Maya erhält Award! An der 14. American Railroad Convention ist Maya am Wochenende eine spezielle Ehre zu Teil geworden: MTI hat den Special Award erhalten, als Dankeschön der Railfans dafür, dass Maya immer wieder spannende, professionell geführte Reisen nach Colorado organisiert. Dabei wird sie von Roland „rusty crocodile“ Kink unterstützt, der die Gruppen persönlich vor Ort betreut.
„Ich habe überhaupt nicht mit dieser Auszeichnung gerechnet, umso mehr freut sie mich“, lachte Maya am Sonntag im Schulhaus Kronenwiese in Adliswil, wo ihr Stand zwei Tage lang Treffpunkt der Railfans war. „Ich werde es jetzt machen wie Barack Obama nach dem Nobelpreis: Ich werde mich für meine treue Kundschaft, die mir zu diesem Preis verholfen hat, noch mehr ins Zeug legen!“.

Maya has been honored in a real special way at the 14th American Railroad Convention that took place in Adliswil, Zurich in October: The Swiss railroad fans thanked Maya for her ceaseless efforts to organize trips to Colorado, the home of Cumbres&Toltec, the Royal Gorge, and the Georgetown Loop Railroad – places that sound like Paradise in a rail fan’s ear, and along the western coast of California. Anyhow, Maya was taken much by surprise by this Award, just as the President of the United States must have been by the Nobel Prize he got just around the same time. So Maya, when she finally found words, quoted Barrack: „We’ll take this award as a token, and we’ll try even harder in the future“, she said. Then she went on to thank her trusted tour guide, the one and only Mr Roland „Rusty Crocodile“ Kink. And soon as she was back at her office, she called all the hotels in Colorado and on the West Coast of California, and asked for more hotel rooms.
