Bald sechs Monate ist es her, seit Sie meinen letzten MayaLetter erhalten habe. Viel ist geschehen in der Welt und ich bedaure, wie viele Länder unsere Kunden nicht mehr besuchen wollen, weil sie als Durchgangslager für Flüchtlinge gelten oder weil unsere Gäste einfach Angst haben, dorthin zu reisen. Als ich vor vielen Jahren beim Israel-Spezialisten Teitler Reisen gearbeitet habe und mehrmals im Jahr in den Nahen Osten geflogen bin, habe ich mich nie darum gekümmert, was sein könnte. Man bekam hier in der Schweiz nur einen Teil der News mit, da man noch nicht online verlinkt war. Aber heute, wo die Welt dank Internet so zusammengerückt ist, wird man täglich bombardiert mit Informationen. Wer weiss schon, was wahr ist und was als Sensation von Journalisten aufgebauscht wird.

It's been almost six months since you received my last MayaLetter. A lot has happened since. and I regret that our customers don't want to visit many countries anymore because they're considered refugees' camps, our because our customers are afraid of travelling there. Many years ago I was working with Teitler Reisen who specialized in trips to Israel. I would fly to the Middle East many times per year and never worried about what might happen. You never got to read in Switzerland all that happened around the world because we weren't connected online yet. Now that the world has gotten so much smaller thanks to the Internet we can't avoid hearing everything. Still, it's hard to tell what's real and what's exaggerated by the press for the sake of the headlines.

Last year in November I was lucky enough to travel to Namibia with a small group and to enjoy an absolutely spectacular flight safari. What a luxury to be flying from lodge to lodge of the Gondwana Group, and that on our own plane and to see, hear and enjoy so many new and interesting things with Richard, our Namibian captain with German ancestry. Soeben sind auch unsere letzten Motorrad-Reiseteilnehmer der Wintersaison von Oktober 2015 bis April 2016 aus Südafrika zurückgekommen. Wir hatten auf allen Reisen dieses Jahr enormes Wetterglück. Die meisten Motorradfahrer sind auf den ganzen Reisen (mit einer kleinen eintägigen Ausnahme) immer trocken durch die Kap-Region gefahren. Unsere Auswahl der kleinen exklusiven Hotels, die Route entlang des Meers sowie die Ausflüge auf den Game Lodges wurde von allen Teilnehmern gelobt und unser Reiseleiter Rolf Luchsinger wurde von einigen Gruppen schon wieder für die Wintersaison 2016/17 gebucht. Just now, the last participants of our motorcycle tours of the winter season from October 2015 to April 2016 have returned home from South Africa. We lucked out on all trips, the weather in the Cap region was favourable and most riders didn’t get wet once on their whole trip except for one single day. All participants spoke favourably of our choice of small, exclusive hotels along the sea route and also of all the excursions to the game lodges. Some participants have already booked our tour guide Rolf Luchsinger for the winter season of 2016/17. Of course we have some dates left and would be glad to welcome you on one of our motorcycle trips in South Africa. Here are our new dates.
Im März sind wir wieder ans C2C Country Festival in London gepilgert. Dieses Jahr hatten die Engländer alles im Griff. Der Sound war toll bis zu den obersten Rängen, die Artisten zwar jung und rockig, aber im richtigen Country-Groove und mit Chris Stapleton wurde ein Newcomer präsentiert, der alle alten Fans von Johnny Cash und Waylon Jennings erblassen lies. 12 000 Besucher hielten im O2 Stadion den Atem an und es war mucksmäuschenstill, als Chris mit seiner Frau zu einem leisen akustischen Set ohne Lichtshow oder sonstigem Brimborium ansetzte. Die Standing Ovation, die dem Künstler nach seinem Gig zuteilwurde, war absolut gigantisch. Wir haben vom Veranstalter für 2017 schon die Tickets in den vordersten Rängen erhalten, das Hotel ist reserviert und Buchungen nehmen wir jederzeit gerne entgegen. Gerne stehen wir für ergänzende Fragen zur Verfügung.
In March, we again attended the C2C Country Festival in London. This year, the British were in total control. The sound was great way back to the highest ranks, the artists were young and rocking, but they had the right country groove. With Chris Stapleton, they presented a newcomer that enthralled all the old fans of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. 12 000 people at the O2 stadium held their breath and you could have heard a pin drop when Chris was joined by his wife for a quite acoustic set with no light show nor any fuss and muss. The standing ovation that the artist got after his performance was absolutely outstanding. We already have gotten front row tickets for 2017 from the promoter, we have booked the hotel rooms and are ready for your reservation. Es ist Frühling und mit den ersten richtig warmen Sonnenstrahlen kommen auch die amerikanische Open Air Music Festivals.
Jetzt, wie immer am letzten Wochenende im April und am ersten Wochenende im Mai, wird das grösste Festival „Jazz & Heritage“ in New Orleans stattfinden. Dieses Jahr mit einer geballten Ladung der besten Blues- und Jazz-Künstler. Aber auch Liebhaber von Folk, Cajun und Zydeco werden am diesjährigen Festival ihre Freude haben. Hier geht es zum Line-Up. Das Festival 2016 ist ausverkauft, aber gerne können Sie sich jetzt schon für 2017 anmelden. Wir werden auch nächstes Jahr wieder im Hotel Royal Sonesta direkt an der Bourbon Street wohnen und somit geniessen Sie nach dem Festival den musikalischen und kulinarischen Abend Downtown New Orleans.
It is springtime, and in time for the first warming rays of sun, there are the American open air festivals.
On the last weekend in April and the first weekend in May, there is the “Jazz & Heritage”, New Orleans’ biggest festival. This year, they have a concentrated load full of the very best in blues and jazz. But friends of folk, cajun and zydeco with are also sure to enjoy the roster. Here is the line-up. The 2016 festival is sold out, but you can already register for 2017. Then, we will also be staying at the Royal Sonesta hotel, directly on Bourbon Street. This way, you can enjoy downtown New Orleans, its music and food event after the festival curfew.
Zur gleichen Zeit wie in New Orleans findet am letzten Wochenende im April das grösste Country Festival der Westküste in Palm Springs statt, Stagecoach. Wie glücklich bin ich doch heute, dass ich letztes Jahr an diesem Festival Merle Haggard gesehen habe, der leider vor kurzem verstorben ist. Als grosser Haggard-Fan war ich ganz nahe an der Bühne und haben jeden seiner grossartigen Songs genossen. Das Stagecoach-Festival besticht mit seinen drei grossen Bühnen und durch eine riesige Auswahl an alten und modernen Country-Acts. So werden dieses Jahr u.a. Erich Church, Carrie Underwood und Luke Brian, Emmylou Harris, The Doobie Brothers, Billy Joe Shaver und John Fogerty auf einer der Bühnen stehen. Bei über 60 Künstlern, die am Festival auftreten, hat es ganz für jeden Country-Music-Fan das Richtige dabei.
